Alabama came through to expectations with a 38-20 win over the unranked Kentucky Wildcats at their home stadium to make the Tide's record 5-0 on the year with 2 conference wins.  McElroy threw 26 balls, 15 of which were caught.  Those tosses added up to 148 yards and 2 TD's with no pickson the game.  Greg McElroy still hasn't lost a game as starting quarterback in his life (high school and college).
Ingram gets his career-high game running in 2 TD's and 140 yards rushing.

Trent Richardson- The Unstoppable Force

Check out this 52-yard touchdown run against the Razorbacks where he breaks 4 tackles and also outruns 2 more men, just showing his abilities.

Well, I will admit at first I thought he was just another ordinary running back for Alabama, but I could not help but notice his abilities as of late.  Yes, he did good againt North Texas, but come on, its North Texas we're talking about.  I think he really proved his dominance last Saturday against the Razorbacks with an average of around 7.2 yards per carry.

His explosiveness is key, and he loves to run right at people, just like Roy Upchurch, and that is what we love to see.  "Alabama freshman running back Trent Richardson has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, following his performance against the Arkansas Razorbacks last Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa."- Rolltide.com

That is just one more to his impressive stats, which show that he went to the same high school as Emmitt Smith, and broke all of the records rushing that Emmitt Smith made.  Wow, watch out for the freight train coming by folks, looks like we don't need to recruit a running back for a few more years.

What are your thoughts on this?

Week 4 Player of the Game

So this week was definitely one of the best games we have played this year, considering we actually played a tough opponent.  This was a hard one picking out the 4 most important players of the game, but here they are . . .

Greg McElroy- Continuing to prove his abilities, McElroy completed 17 passes for 291 yards and 3 touchdowns.  These are some pretty impressive stats against an SEC defense, let's see if he can keep it up during some harder conference games.  He has been continually getting better.

Trent Richardson- Wow, can this guy make defenders miss.  The statistics do not at all show how well he played this Saturday with 9 carries for 65 yards and a score.  He also had 2 receptions for 18 yards.  Now by looking at these stats I would not say he was one of the best players, but he touchdown run was phenomal.  Watch out for him in the next few years.

Defense/Special Teams-  They were the main reason they won this game, holding Arkansas to 7 points was radiculous.  They put the needed pressure on the QB to secure a few needed sacks.  Javier Arenas did a great job at return man and had 3 loss of yardage tackles in the first half alone.

Other- Well we all know Julio Jones had 2 catches, one of em for a long TD.  Marquis Maze had his 80-yard catch which was arguably the best play of the game.  So there are definately more players who could have been the best, so if you choose this one as alwasy tell me who the other is.

Week 4 Statistical Matchup

Arkansas is coming to visit Bryant-Denny on Saturday, September 26th.  Kickoff is at 2:30 central.  Let's get on top of 'em here in the first conference game of the year.  Here are some interesting stats on this weekend's game . . .

Alabama is 3-0 and Arkansas is 1-1, so keep in mind, we have played one more game then them.

  • Alabama average points per game- 42.3  Arkansas- 44.5
  • Opponents points per game:  Alabama- 15   Arkansas- 31
  • Overall First downs per game:  Alabama-25.33  Arkansas- 23
  • Opponents first downs per game:  Alabama- 10.33  Arkansas- 17.5
  • Average Rushing yards per game: Alabama- 267.7  Arkansas- 110.5
  • Average Rushing yards against: Alabama-42    Arkansas- 118.5
  • Passing yards: Alabama-244.6  Arkansas- 427.5
  • Against: Alabama- 143.3   Arkansas- 249
  • Average yards per play: Alabama 7.1  Arkansas- 8.0
  • Against: Alabama- 3.4   Arkansas- 6.1

Those are some great stats to show that Alabama and Arkansas are pretty equal, but we have by far a better D . . . so what do you guys think the end score will be?  I say 27-17.

Alabama RB

via www2.pictures.zimbio.com

Alabama Essentially has 4 RB's that get the ball, I want to know which one you think is best.  Vote for you favorite on the poll and comment on your five in order.  My order is . . .

#1 Mark Ingram- This extremely talented sophomore had 297 yards in 44 carries (6.8 average) in 3 games, which is very good for the fact that he "shares" with 4 other backs.  He has 3 TD's, average of one per game, but his longest is 39 yards.  He had a great performance last year and he can only get better from here.

#2 Roy Upchurch- He may not be considered second, but he has proved himself this year with 107 yards in only 11 carries.  9.7 yards per carry is extremely well, and it has gotten him one touchdown.  That is less than all of the others, but the 9.7 average shows his abilities.

#3 Terry Grant- This one was very close.  He has 27 carries with 150 yards, which averages with 5.6 ypc.  This is not necessarily exceptional, but pretty good.  He has not gotten as many yards as he may like, but I think the talent is there with 3 touchdowns.  He is a great 3rd spot back.

#4 Trent Richardson- 215 yards in 29 touches and 3 touchdowns are great stats also, but the touchdown-yards ratio is not very well, which means he normally just gets the ball around midfield.  He is very effevtive in this spot, but has mainly gotten the ball with open-fielded plays.

Now show me who you got . . .

Week 3 Player of the Game

No. 4 Alabama Routs North Texas (via ESPN)

So here are a few highlights of the game today, but they are not complete.  Here is a weekly poll I will do after every game asking who the best player was.  So vote in the poll on the right side of the page for who you really think did the best.
Greg McElroy- He had a tremendous game going 13-15 with a dropped pass totalling up 176 passing yards.  He completed 2 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown to lead the Tide to a victory.
Mark Ingram- He also put on a show with 8 carries for 91 yards (11.3 yard average) with a rushing touchdown.  He also had three catches for 38 yards and a touchdown.  Not to mention he did not even get to play the second half.
Terry Grant- Grant had two of the touchdown runs and 79 total yards.  Not many yards, but racked up him some good points.
Defense/Special Teams-  They Tide D help NT to 187 total offensive yards and 7 points, and the Mean Green did not cross midfield on offense with the football until 3:19 left in the 3rd quarter.  Also, Javier Arenas racked up 151 total return yards (90 on 4 punt returns and other 61 on a single kickoff-return).  This is essentially like giving us 151 free yards.

This was a great game against a poor opponent, and hopefully Tiffin will get over the 2 missed extra points he had in this warm-up for Conference games like Arkansas next week.

Alabama vs. North Texas Week 3

T1_0905_maccox_medium

via i2.cdn.turner.com

Expect this at the End of this weekend's matchup.

Looks like Saturday's 11:20 am central time game might be a bit of a blowout.  The North Texas Mean Green will be making their way to Bryant-Denny stadium from Denton, Texas, in order to face the #4 ranked team in the nation, you very own Alabama Crimson Tide.  The 1-1 Mean Green will be at a loss of the quarterback spot after Redshirt freshman Riley Dodge had a shoulder injury in last week's game.  Here are some stats for you . . .

North Texas has been outscored 297-23 in five games against top-10 teams since 2004!!!

North Texas has never beaten a Top 25 ranked team.

When the 2 teams last met in 2002, Alabama laid a whopping 33 points to 7 in a victory over the Mean Green.

The ground attack accounted for 115 yards on 40 attempts for North Texas, a tiny average of 2.9 yards per carry.  That just will not cut it against Alabama's defense with Orlando McClain and Terrance Cody looking for the run.

Greg McElroy completed a school-record 14 consecutive passes before finishing 18 of 24 for 241 yards and a touchdown, showing he might have what it takes to be Alabama's starting quarterback after week 1 poor performance.

Do not expect Bama to lose focus on this one, especially considering that SEC play begins following this matchup with North Texas.  I think despite the numbers, Bama will go out hitting hard, so buckle up cowgirls!

I want to know what you guys think the score will be, so post a comment with your predictions about this Saturday's clash.

Here is an awesome madden 11 cover that I photoshopped to have Justin Gage and another Titans defender!

Play of Week 1

0:15- McElroy to Darius Hank #15 for a 35-yard diving catch.  Perfect pass, perfect catch.

1:22- Roy Upchurch has an awesome run for a 20-yard touchdown and does not even try to avoid the tackler at the goal line, he RAN HIM OVER!

1:50- Roy Upchurch once again drives the ball upfield for a 34-yard gain in which he jukes and spins out 3 tacklers.

2:28- 47-yard bomb from McElroy to Marquis Maze #4 where he goes down on his own at the 7-yard line.

Other- There were some other great plays and forced fumbles in this game, if you pick one leave a comment telling which play and why.
